For this reason, we are looking for an established consumer safety professional to take on the role of Global Director – Consumer Safety & Vigilance.


Reporting to the Chief Safety, Quality, Regulatory & Compliance Officer, you will set the vision and lead the global team in becoming a world class example of consumer safety and vigilance. You will have over-arching accountability for all toxicology and vigilance activities for RB and provide critical steer on all aspects of consumer safety.


In this role, you will directly contribute to the business’s success by strengthening a ‘safety first’ culture while shaping and driving key safety and compliance programmes. In such a critical position, there is no doubt you will apply your expertise to several varying and often complex matters as well as advise stakeholders at all levels on best practice and responsible business relating to consumer safety and vigilance.


Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Lead all aspects of product safety and vigilance (e.g. pharmacovigilance, materiovigilance, cosmetovigilance) activities for RB across multiple technologies including licensed medicines, medical devices, cosmetics to general products and infant formula

  • Lead the company strategy on all consumer safety product related matters ensuring that our products are evaluated for safety and compliance and that product risks are managed and remediated

  • Ensure effective safety strategies are in place for the product innovation pipeline, delivery of safety aspects for clinical development, lead safety signal detection, develop risk management plans, provide relevant regulatory safety documentation and evaluate benefit-risk assessment for all RB products

  • Ensure evaluation, communication and implementation of risk mitigation activities for RB and be prepared to act as the physician spokesperson for safety matters on behalf of RB internally and externally, as appropriate

  • Regularly provide simple and well thought progress and plans summaries for the Board and Executive Committee
  • Lead the long-term safety-related business processes and systems that will support a safe and compliant product portfolio for the company

  • Prioritise, drive and communicate the product safety activities within review and remediation programs

  • Provide clear guidelines and set corporate policies on key consumer safety decisions including product safety classification (CLP), Product Safety Evaluation Report (PSER) and the approach to Product Safety Data Sheets (PSDS) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Company Core Data Sheets (CCDS)

  • Accountable to Boards of health, national competent authorities and other agencies as required to ensure compliance regarding safety matters

  • Accountable to Compliance Management Committee and the RB Board Corporate Responsibility, Sustainability and Ethics Committee (CRSEC) for ensuring the consumer safety programmes are lead and managed to consistently


What We Are Looking For?

  • Experienced clinical toxicologist/experienced safety physician with significant success within global safety roles

  • Considerable experience in consumer health, pharmaceutical or chemicals industry

  • Solid leadership skills, as well as experience working effectively in a matrix environment

  • Experience in managing and developing large technical teams across multiple geographies

  • Tangible success in driving a ‘safety first’ culture to influence decision making around product innovation and through the product life cycle

  • The ability to make an impact and be positively disruptive to bring about positive change

  • A skilled influencer and an effective partner to stakeholders at all levels

  • An additional medical qualification in either pharmaceutical medicine, clinical pharmacology and therapeutics or general internal medicine would be ideal
