The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, is responsible for the leadership of the EHS program for the Evansville campus, which includes the Evansville Supply Center (ESC), quality control laboratories, research & development, and administrative operations on the Evansville campus.  The EHS Manager will be the primary EHS contact for the Evansville campus and will be responsible for keeping current on all regulatory and company requirements to ensure that the facility maintains an exemplary record with respect to EHS compliance and EHS program expectations.
 
 
 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
 
  • Effectively leads and manages the EHS organization and activities to meet business expectations including elements in safety, cost, quality, compliance, culture and capital.
  • Establishes and implements EHS strategic continuous improvement plans.  Explores industry trends, develops strategies, and drives leading edge technology in EHS in order to develop new alternatives and relevant strategies.
  • Continuously communicates and reviews the functional and financial performance of the EHS department and programs, manages the tools and processes to monitor key performance indicators.  Establishes expectations for the EHS organization.
  • Leads the implementation of projects and processes to improve EHS performance.  Seeks out, identifies, and champions key ideas that generate positive business results.
  • Creates and develops a high performing team which is committed to the mission of the EHS organization, the Evansville Supply Center, the quality and R&D organizations and MJN.  Builds a team culture committed to high performance and holds others accountable for the results expected.
  • Communicates a clear EHS vision that is aligned with the goals of the Evansville Supply Center, the quality organization, the R&D operation and MJN.
  • Leads the Environmental Health & Safety Management System for the Evansville campus in order to maintain IDEM’s Environmental Stewardship Program and Star status in IOSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program in the ESC operation.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with peers, production workforce, personnel within the quality and R&D organizations, management teams, Occupational Health Services, and outside agencies.  Collaborates with others across the Evansville campus to assure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides leadership for sustainability projects and cross function collaboration to meet corporate sustainability goals.
  • Serves as a member of the Evansville Supply Center Leadership Team and contributes to development of strategies, projects, and business planning for ESC.
  • Partners effectively with line management to promote an organizational culture that supports the achievement of business objectives.
  • Sustains the flexibility and responsiveness of a non-union workforce through effective leadership, teamwork, and communications.

Job Requirements:

 

Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering preferably in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, chemical or a closely related scientific field.  MS or MBA is strongly preferred. Professional certification in an EHS related area (CIH, CSP, PE, CHMM) is preferred.  Eight to ten years EHS experience working in a highly regulated industry, including facility based operating experience.

 

Additional experience desired:

 

  • Working experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and Environmental Stewardship Programs.
  • Understanding of EHS, OSHA and GMP regulations.
  • Knowledge of industry “Best-in-class” standards.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 and 45001 standards
  • Significant experience in managing people in a dynamic environment and proven track record of developing people and organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to and influence a diverse audience, at multiple levels within the company.
  • Significant experience in managing projects and/or leadership of EHS functions.
  • Setting and achieving functional and financial goals.
  • Demonstrated skills in leading problem solving utilizing continuous improvement metrics, tools and methodologies; conducting risk assessments, accident investigations, and root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions and hazard identification.
  • Leadership skills to translate strategy into specific tactical direction.
  • Knowledge of compliance, GMP, HACCP and Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) processes.
  • Must possess analytical and problem solving skills and have knowledge of root cause analysis, and cause and effect analysis.
