A fantastic opportunity is available for a Manufacturing Technician – Weekdays- 1st Shift (7:15 am to 3:30 pm) to join our Belle Mead Manufacturing team.


POSITION SUMMARY


The Manufacturing Tech is responsible for both running production lines when needed and making maintenance and technical decisions with exceptional knowledge of how the decisions will impact financial, quality and safety metrics; understanding and adhering to guidelines in the employee handbook and complying with regulatory requirements, company / plant policies, procedures, and rules in his/ her area of responsibility.

The Manufacturing Tech must be able to independently perform most assignments. This is a skilled position that requires prior experience with packaging lines, equipment and processes.


TECHNICAL & OPERATIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED: 

  • Participates in developing and assisting in communicating short-range and medium-range maintenance plans for their packaging lines. 
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Planner and Maintenance leader to lead the Maintenance repair on their lines. 
  • Monitor equipment uptime and maintenance response time and initiate improvement plans when necessary. 
  • Support Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing activities on their lines.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills to internal customers and exchange pertinent information to maintenance peers in an effective manner.
  • Ensure compliance with established standards and procedures involving safety, quality, sanitation, good manufacturing policies, lean manufacturing and other plant programs. Passionately identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement on assigned packaging lines.
  • Communicate, interact and follow up with co-workers to build and maintain positive employee relations.
  • Provides occasional off hour support to the plant in emergency situations as needed.
  • Determine root cause of equipment failure and implement improvement plans on your lines. 
  • Determine the best way to accomplish maintenance tasks while limiting disruption to production.
  • Operates and changes over Packaging Line Equipment as needed and provides suggestions to reduce change over time. 
  • Develops Center lining for Packaging Line Equipment
  • Will be assigned and have responsibility for Line Ownership on a minimum of two Lines within the manufacturing operation. This responsibility will include, but not be limited to, ensuring the following; 
  • Required equipment PM is known and posted on the production line boards. o Any and all PM or repair work is carried out and completed as scheduled. 
  • Correct number of spare components (as recommended by the OEM or by historical data) is kept in parts room as spare and is available.
  • All required and scheduled PM's are kept as close to their scheduled time (as applicable). 
  • All of the OEM Technical and training documents are kept up to date on there lines and where possible are obtained on a CD ROM as well as by hard copy. 
  • They keep current with all training when the OEM Technicians are on-sit.

SAFETY: 

  • Understands and is accountable for full compliance with RB local and Global EHS Policies and programs (i.e., PPE, HAZCOM, Lockout Tag Out, process safety, etc.) 
  • Participation in EHS programs (i.e., Behavior Safety Observations, near miss reporting, etc.) 
  • Timely completion of all EHS training · Accurate and timely completion of Inspections, reports and forms required to comply with EHS rules and regulations 
  • Where required, additional EHS training such as Hazardous Waste and/or HAZWOPER. Training will be provided in order for the employee to fulfill the requirement of his/her position.
  • Participate when needed in EHS internal/external audits and/or regulatory inspections · Active participation during incident investigations and promoting all safety activities/events 
  • Follows current work instruction and ensures adherence to the Quality Control Plan and related Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). 
  • Performs Statistical Process Control Charting and takes appropriate corrective action. 
  • Performs and practices good Housekeeping. 

TEAMWORK:

  • Consistently demonstrates leadership abilities on designated lines that he/she is operating. 
  • Trains and certifies new Technicians, Operators, and Temps as needed.
  • Able to send and receive E-Mail in a timely and effective manner. 
  • Works effectively in a Team based work environment.


COMPETENCIES: 

  • OPERATIONAL - Experience and proven track record of operating packaging line equipment in LPK such as Sorters/Orienters, Filler/Capper, Labelers, Sleevers, Heat Shrink Wrap Tunnels, Case Formers, Case Packers, Conveyors, etc.
  • Experience operating packaging line and related equipment from startup, through all manual adjustments (like clearing jams), to shutdown as well as performing changeovers on the line as needed. 
  • Experience performing scheduled Preventative Maintenance (PMs) to insure equipment efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and change over all Packaging Line equipment in a timely manner to insure minimum down time and smooth start up. ·
  • TROUBLESHOOTING - Capable of problem solving mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulics packaging line equipment, components and systems problems. 
  • Blue Print Reading - Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic/Pneumatic, Tech. Manual 
  • Use of Test Equipment - Voltage Tester, Volt/Ohmmeter, Tachometer, Temperature Probe
  • Knowledge and Understanding of Machine Components - Electrical, Hydraulic/Pneumatic, Mechanical (Drives, Clutches, Cams) 

MECHANICAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPMENT REPAIR - Including removal, disassembly, reassembly and installation of all gear reducer styles (worm, helical gear, variable pulley, etc.) Capable of bearing replacement, gear replacement, shim replacement and bearing preload adjustment. Repair, adjustment, replacement of sprockets, chains, couplings, v-belts, sheaves and pulleys. 


 BASIC WELDING AND BRAZING - Common materials (steel, aluminum, stainless steel, sheet metal) for the purpose of repairing minor equipment damage and performing light fabrication (brackets, etc.) Arc welding capability and the Oxygen/Acetylene. 


HAND AND POWER TOOLS - Ability to use all common Hand and Power Tools. 


MAINTENANCE MATERIALS - Knowledge of Maintenance Materials and mechanical fasteners, common industrial lubricants and lubrication techniques. 


PUMP REPAIR- Including removal, disassembly, reassembly and installation of all pump styles (centrifugal, metering gear, vacuum, diaphragm, etc.). Capable of bearing and shaft replacement, coupling repair, shaft alignment, motor removal and installation.


SHEETMETAL FABRICATION - Including layout, installation and repair of light fabrications (machine guards, hoods, etc.), ability to use sheet metal brake, spot welder and sheet metal shears.
