A fantastic opportunity is available for an Enterprise Application Architect to join our Information Services team.


The Enterprise Application Architect will be responsible for the architecture and technology underpinning the standards-based enterprise application across the RB enterprise applications, platforms, systems and services. The ultimate purpose is to define, manage and govern common RB enterprise application technology standards resulting in the reduction of technology management costs and risks, seamless enterprise application across the RB system landscape, improvement of time to market and operational efficiency, while optimizing enterprise application collaboration and information sharing.

  • The right candidate will define and manage the overall enterprise application architecture, strategic roadmap and transition states for the enterprise application architecture within RB.
  • They will define and manage the enterprise application architecture principles, architecture blueprints, enterprise application patterns and enterprise application technology standards.
  • They will identify important potential enterprise application technologies and approaches to address current and future enterprise application needs within the enterprise, and evaluate their applicability and fit, as well as leading the definition of standards and best-practices for their use. 
  • They will provide hands-on application of enterprise application technologies and processes to support proof-of-concept development, review of critical systems and training to other teams within the organization.
  • They will support the IS Director – Enterprise Architecture in defining and managing the architecture and technology governance processes for the RB enterprise application technology landscape.
  • The right candidate will support the IS Director – Enterprise Architecture in enterprise application technology vendors, service providers and SI supplier engagement, direction, management and oversight
  • The right candidate will be a coach and mentor to the enterprise application engineering team and provide technical oversight to others.
  • Drives RB standards for enterprise application technology and ensures that adherence to those standards is monitored and followed by all members of the Information Systems department.
  • Works with the RB technical leadership across the IS department to develop a strategic plan to keep enterprise application services contemporary, cost competitive and meeting the needs of the business.
  • May be required to function as a technical lead on projects of any size as necessary.
  • Communicates detailed technical information in both written and verbal form across a wide range of audiences, including business stakeholders, users, developers, project management, and other architects.
  • Collaborates with RB colleagues, customers, vendors, and other parties to understand and develop architectural solutions across the enterprise.
  • Leads and/or facilitates the development of appropriate standards and best practices, in addition to the paths by which they may be achieved and monitored.
  • Develops a sound understanding of existing systems and processes, their strengths and limitations, and the current and future needs of the environment in which they exist. Provides vision on how they may be improved and developed.
  • Understands and explains the interactions between systems, applications, and services within the environment, and evaluates the impact of changes or additions to the environment.
  • Participates in the evaluation and/or selection of solutions or products, including requirements definition, vendor and product evaluations.
  • Acts as an escalation point for technical teams and provides hands on expertise.
  • Applies strong analysis, research and problem-solving skills across a wide array of systems and situations, including those which may be unfamiliar, in order to address critical issues. 
Key Challenges:
  • RB has a complex IS landscape that reflects the rapid growth and the global nature of the business. This needs to be streamlined at the same time as driving large scale IS projects forward.  This role will need to quickly establish an in depth understanding of the current landscape and the road map to achieve the desired future state.

Skills & Experience required:

  • Strong experience of application architecture design, evaluation, and analysis
  • Significant experience of professional “hands-on” experience in the following areas:
    • Industry standard Enterprise Resource Planning Applications (e.g. SAP, JD Edwards, Siebel, Oracle, Ariba  etc.).
    • Other Enterprise Apps – Cognos, Hyperion, Datastage, EDW, DRM, FDM,
    • JDE World
    • Experience with integrating SAP Netweaver stack with both SAP and non-SAP systems (including Java applications/portals).
    • Hands-on XI/PI/PO design, configuration and development
  • Proven knowledge of professional “hands-on” experience in the following areas:
    • Expert knowledge of REST and Web Services with hand-on experience consuming APIs for integrating applications and/or UI developments.
    • Hands-on experience with SAP Integration technology including Enterprise Services, OData with Gateway, ALE IDoc technologies, NW Process Integration and BOBJ Data Services.
    • Expert knowledge of J2EE (EJB, Servlet/JSP, XML)
  • Architectural exposure to Red Hat LINUX, UNIX, Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, IIS Server, J2EE, .NET and other technologies such as VBScript, TCP/IP, XML, C++, JavaScript.
  • Technical/Team Leadership Experience
  • Certified Enterprise Application Management Professional or similar qualification


Technical / professional qualifications required:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent preferred
  • TOGAF 9 certified
  • Relevant recognized industry technology certification
